Meet the Trainers and Coordinators
HKLB Cadre trainers are K-12 teachers, district staff, community health educators, retirees, public health professionals and professors of higher education. They are trained in adult education theory and methodology and meet three times a year for professional development.

Jess Bogli, MS, HKLB Cadre Coordinator (Portland)
Jess Bogli began her career as a middle school health teacher in Portland, Oregon. She became the Health Education Curriculum Specialist at the Department of Education and worked closely with a team of specialists from both the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) and the Department of Human Services (DHS) to implement coordinated school health. After working for ODE for three years, Jess decided to pursue a career as an education consultant. As the director of Bogli Consulting, Jess's work includes facilitating meetings, workshops and strategic plans, presenting and speaking at conferences, and developing curriculum and materials specifically around school health issues.
Michelle Dahl (Canby)
Michelles passion for health education began at Ohio University working as a Peer Health Educator as she pursued a degree in Community Health. Following college Michelle served two years in AmeriCorps, working on various public health projects with youth and adults across the US. Her experiences led her to the field of education and to Oregon where she obtained a Masters degree from OSU. Currently, Michelle is in her seventh year of teaching health education at the middle school level in the Salem Keizer School District.
Jill Dale (Salem)
Jill is a Prevention Specialist with Addictions and Mental Health Division in Salem and has a long history of working with community coalitions [since 1992] around addiction issues. She has been a treatment provider in the pastand prevention and health promotion advocate currently.MA in Organization Systems Renewal-Whole Systems Design with special emphasis on working with culture and Systems Thinking. Married 25 years. Interest in history and nutrition.Jillreads a bunch, loves to walk, loves music of almost any kind.
Trisha Ebbs (Salem)
Trisha is a Wellness Teacher at North Salem High School and teachs Health Education Methods at Willamette and Western Oregon. She is the OAHE President Elect and 2009 Health Education High School Teacher of the Year. Trisha is the wife of a math teacher/head wrestling coach and mother of 3, son Cole 16, son Brayden 9, and daughter Taylor 7. She loves to fish with Brayden, throw a football with Cole, and paint my toes with Taylor.
Tanya Frisendahl (Salem)
Tanya Frisendahl taught in the Salem- Keizer School District for 20 years prior to joining the Oregon Department of Education in 2007. She currently is the Health and Physical Education Specialist and also works on a variety of federal programs. One of the highlights of my position is getting the opportunity to work with teachers from all across Oregon.
Dawn Graff-Haight (McMinnville)
Dawn is a Professor of Health Education at Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon. She started her career as an elementary and middle school health education teacher in Illinois and Wisconsin, and was a contributing editor and teacher's edition editor for Current Health 1 Magazine for twenty years. In addition to teaching at Linfield, Dawn also volunteers as the middle and high school health teacher at Sheridan Japanese School in Sheridan, Oregon.
Lola Hagman (Madras)
Lola has taught and substituted for the Jefferson County School District for 31 years. She currently teaches 1/2 day elementary PE and 1/2 day middle school PE. Prior to this Lola taught middle school health education for 12 years. She enjoy working with the middle school age students - they really keep you on your toes!

Gigi Sims (Corvallis)
Gigi began her teaching career as a Health Ed Specialist for Salem-Keizer. Becoming a mom (of three) ended the commute and brought her home to Corvallis to teach graduate students at Oregon State University. Gigi currently works for the Corvallis School District as Coordinator for Safe Routes to School and Wellness Policy. She enjoys writing curriculum, facilitating teacher trainings, and teaching K-8 students. Personal favorites include: family time, Pacific Northwest adventures, commuting by bike, and reading.
Maesie Speer (Portland)
Maesie is a specialist with Bogli Consulting, a health education consulting firm in Portland, and is currently an MPH candidate in health promotion at Portland State University. Maesie has also directed projects and communications for the Oregon School-Based Health Care Network and the Center for Health Interprofessional Programs at the University of Minnesota.
Kari Stuhmer, MST (Beaverton)
Kari taught MS Health Education (HE) for 27 years. Currently she facilitates trainings for educators in twelve HE programs, Standards and Assessment, National HE Standards, HE Curriculum Analysis Tool (HECAT). She has also served as: Project Director - $750,000 Tobacco Prevention grant; Coordinator - HKLB Cadre of Trainers; Facilitator - HE curriculum review; Co-author - national publishers curriculum.
Vicki Wentzein (Portland)
Vicki works currently works as an Independent Contractor for Nutrition Education Services/Oregon Dairy Council. In that position, she reviews and develops nutrition curricula and conducts teacher trainings. In the past, she has presented at state conferences, served on health education committees, written newsletters for educators, and been a classroom teacher. She enjoys motivating students to enjoy food and eating well. Vicki holds an MEd from Linfield College.
Brad Victor (Salem)
Brad Victor taught in Oregon schools for 23 years prior to joining the Oregon Department of Education in 1998. For the last 11+ years Mr. Victor has trained teachers and administrators throughout the state in the area of effective educational strategies and Oregon law regarding instruction for sexuality education. Mr. Victor received the Oregon Health Educator of the Year Award (OAHPERD) and the Oregon Indian Education Administrator of the Year Award (OIEA) during 2006. Mr. Victor is currently completing his PhD. in Adult Learning from Oregon State University and was just elected to President for the Oregon Alliance of Health Education. Mr. Victor also serves on the Board of Directors for: the Oregon School-Based Health Care Network; the Oregon Teen Pregnancy Taskforce; and the Oregon Alliance of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.

Sydney York (Portland)
Sydney is currently the K-12 Health Curriculum Specialist for Portland Public Schools and also teaches K-3 Physical Education. Work-related passions include collaborating with other teachers and facilitating trainings useful to their professional growth. Off the clock, Sydney loves to golf, ski, garden, cook, read, and occasionally send her two very independent-minded children care packages.
